Cleansers for acne-prone skin that actually work are hard to find. If you struggle with acne like me, you know that a good acne cleanser in your skincare routine makes all the difference in maintaining an acne-free skin and preventing acne flare-ups. If you are asking yourself “What is the best acne cleanser ?”, I have compiled below some of the best cleansers I recently tried and loved for my skin.
Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash
Fresh’s Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash feels like a mild homemade cleanser for acne-prone skin. I always use it when I’m in the shower so this is the best shower face wash for oily skin, but also for most skin tones. When your skin is sensitive or you are on Accutane staying away from exfoliators is key, but this product is so mild, gentle, and not harsh on your skin at all. The Fresh Sugar Strawberry face wash gives your skin a natural glow complexion and if you prefer scent-free the fragrance is subtle. The smoothing sugar crystals will literally melt away as you are polishing your skin, and the face wash is also made with real strawberries. It hasn’t given me any breakouts and I have been using it for months now. With Accutane it is not recommended you exfoliate but if you are finding your skin needs a gentle exfoliation this scrub is perfect. Dr. Roebuck’s Kibosh Weightless Foaming Cleanser
Dr Roebuck’s Kibosh is a gentle sulfate-free foaming cleanser that will leave your skin hydrated and refreshed. Their products are made with clean ingredients so no harmful chemicals like parabens, sulfates, and silicones. Both of its founders struggled with eczema as kids, so if you struggle with acne or sensitive skin you know they are to be trusted! My boyfriend who also has oily, acne-prone skin uses Kibosh too so I would also consider this the best acne face wash for men.
What makes this the best cleanser for acne-prone skin is that it’s weightless and one pump is enough to clean your skin. The cleanser contains jojoba oil, which leaves your skin feeling soft and not oily which is key when you have acne. Jojoba oil is also known for its restorative properties so if you have acne scars to heal this is your holy grail agent. Because of its oil-reducing formula and rejuvenating components, Dr. Roebuck’s Kibosh Weightless Foaming Cleanser is one of the best face wash for acne scars I have tried. Two other key ingredients in this product for acne-prone skin are the Tasmanian Pepper and Australian Wattle Seed which have anti-inflammatory properties that help to cool and hydrate your skin.
Vivier HEXAM Cleanser
Vivier HEXAM Cleanser is a gentle, gel antimicrobial cleanser perfect for all skin tones. What makes this product great for acne is that it contains Hexamidine which is known to fight against bacteria that produce acne or redness. During my use of the cleanser, I didn’t get as many breakouts as I usually do, especially during my hormonal peak days which are the worst for my acne. If you have reactive skin and are looking for a gel cleanser for oily skin and large pores that also removes makeup and soothes inflammation, this is the one for you. Vivier Hexam Cleanser is also safe to use after peels and laser treatment. The price of the cleanser is quite steep, but I loved how it makes my skin feel after each wash. Cleansers for acne-prone skin sometimes leave the skin too dry but this one kept my skin hydrated and preserved some of the natural oiliness.
Pro-Derm Gentle Cleanser
Pro-Derm Gentle Cleanser is formulated to maximize your skin’s hydration and it contains an optimal acid pH of 4,5 to maintain the skin’s balance. The cleanser is free from harmful parabens and alcohol ingredients, but it does contain glycolic acid so be cautious if you have sensitive skin. Glycolic acid is great for getting rid of flaky skin and dead cells so I didn’t mind it, especially since the cleanser overall felt very gentle on my skin. Pro-Derm Gentle Cleanser is a great cleanser because it contains vitamin B5 to help prevent premature aging. It also contains 40% aloe extract and lavender essential oils that help soothe frequently irritated skin. This product is also safe to use after cosmetic procedures. I used it after I had a laser chemical peel and my skin didn’t react at all.
