Where to Stay in Chicago – Fairmont Chicago

Chicago is one of my favourite cities to visit. The question always lingers though. Where to stay in Chicago? There are tons of options to choose from when it comes to accommodations in Chicago, but our home away from home matters and has to feel and be special.Kamiran and I got invited to attend the Cookies and Cheer Exchange event (more on that in next week’s post), at Fairmont  Chicago and I am so happy to have experienced one of the best luxury stays.  Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park wrapped up their multi-million dollar renovations in 2016, and seriously the makeover speaks to my heart. Read all the hotel details below as to why Fairmont Chicago should be your top choice accommodation in Chicago.

The Location

Located in the heart of downtown on North Columbus Drive, the hotel is surrounded by stunning views of Grant and Maggie Daley Parks as well as Lake Michigan and the historic Chicago skyline. To make your city exploring much more relaxing, Fairmont Chicago is conveniently located just a short walk from Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue. This makes the whole experience of the stay so much more enjoyable since you can just walk to the hottest spots in the city like Cindy’s Rooftop Bar and The Purple Pig any time you wish.

The hotel is also a short cab drive from Shedd Aquarium and Adler’s Planetarium, which we had a chance to visit and highly recommend. So whether you are traveling with the kids, girlfriends or your partner, Fairmont Chicago is surrounded by options.

We stayed in the spacious 420-square-foot Fairmont Signature King Room. The Fairmont Signature Rooms are located on the higher floors of the hotel (Floors 31-37, we stayed on the 35th). We slept in the whole time during our trip (snoozed our 7am alarm a milion times haha), and I blame the Fairmont for that because seriously their beds ARE THE BEST you do not want to get up, which is not a bad thing if you are on vacay. The luxury bedding and fine linens did not help our case either. I also loved the luxury feel of the room; contemporary decor with original artwork by Warwick Orme, marble bathroom with a separate soaking tub and walk-in shower with a soothing rainfall style showerhead, and of course high-quality bath amenities by Le Labo. We actually found the soaking bathtub really useful because a couple of nights during our stay it rained, and the bathtub made it really easy to wash Margot and clean her up. This is an amazing feature for anyone traveling with their pet! It is the little things that make your stay at the Fairmont Chicago special, and this for me made our vacay less stressful. There is also a spacious dressing area with a full body mirror and a counter area with another make-up mirror and bench where you can apply your makeup if the bathroom is occupied.

Turn Down Service

Turn down service is one of my favorite services Fairmont Chicago offers. If you want to sleep in, you can just let Housekeeping know and they will arrange to come by later on the day. I loved this about the Fairmont. No other hotel has done this for us in the past. If the do not disturb sign is up, housekeeping usually does not return at a later time on that same day. Not at the Fairmont! Housekeeping at Fairmont Chicago, has been the best Kamiran and I have experienced so far. As soon as we walked in our room, there was classical music playing making the room welcoming right away, the temperature was set to make the room cozy during the cold winter night, and a yummy tray of refreshing fruit and cheese was set up for us; making it the perfect treat after our flight to unwind. Housekeeping will also drop off a complimentary bottle of VOSS water for you. Fairmont Chicago has a dedicated team that made us feel so welcomed. Any accommodations we needed with the room, they looked after us right away. It was so wonderful.

Located on the higher floors of the hotel, the Signature Suites offer breathtaking East views of beautiful Lake Michigan and Grant and Millennium Parks. I loved waking up and seeing the view out of our window, or the sun shining. The crisp, winter views of Chicago are my favourite.

Fairmont Chicago is Dog-Friendly

Looking for a dog friendly hotel in Chicago? I always worry when I travel with Margot, because not everyone loves dogs. Fairmont Chicago though will not only spoil your dog, but other guests will also make your dog feel like a celebrity. Margot was wagging her tail the whole time during our stay. She also tested out every spot in our room. She took naps, stretched out, played with her toys; She seems to approve all of the room updates. Housekeeping also provided Margot with her own lux bed, food bowl and water bowl and of course a cute chew toy. Love how the hotel pays attention to making all family members feel special, and we all know Margot is my top priority.

The hotel’s location again is everything, especially if you are bringing your dog to Chicago with you. You can take a lovely walk with your dog on Chicago’s Riverwalk or opt for a fun date at Lakeshore East Dog park (pictured above) with other doggies which is conveniently a two minute walk from the hotel. So many options here even for your dog.

Dining Options at Fairmont Chicago

Breakfast – Millennium Room – Located in the Lobby level, start your day off the right way by indulging in a traditional American breakfast buffet, or call for your room service and have breakfast in bed. Also a must!

Lunch/ Diner – Columbus Tap – A neighbourhool favourite, this gastropub is always packed with people. Kam and I grabbed a bite from their late night snack menu and let’s just say there were no leftovers. I would definitely recommend trying their dry rub chicken wings, as well as trying their extensive beer selection. Sooo good.

Drinks – THE BAR – Located in the lobby, THE BAR is such a great addition to this luxury hotel. We loved grabbing cocktails here before heading out for the night, but it’s also the perfect spot for after dinner if you want to unwind with a glass of wine before heading to your room.

I also have a graphic below with more options of where to eat, grab a coffee, fun things to do around Fairmont Chicago for your convenience.

We had such a wonderful stay at Fairmont Chicago, and I was really sad to go to be honest. I consider Chicago my second home ( I love it here so much), but having stayed at Fairmont Chicago with the family too, I truly felt at home and we can’t wait to go back again. Our stay was stress-free , fun and just what we needed. Whether you travel for business or pleasure, Fairmont Chicago offers quality service that makes your stay so much more enjoyable. We are so glad to have stayed here. Also, check out my Afternoon Tea post at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto!

Thank you to Fairmont for hosting us and making our stay so memorable.
