Holiday decor tends to be a bit tacky, but it doesn’t have to be. With Canada Day around the corner I wanted to share my tips how to throw a stylish Canada Day summer party for friends and family. Red and white will rule the day, but if you want to put together a memorable party, having a unique take on the décor is essential.
It is all about the details, and with the help of HomeSense you can throw a stylish party in your small space patio that will be as epic as the night’s fireworks. Read below all my tips how to throw a laidback yet stylish Canada Day party in the city.
Widen Your Colour Theme Palette
Mix your staple decors of red and white with another colour to tone down the theme. When you are entertaining in a small space, Canada Day décor can be overwhelming. To break up the repetitiveness of the red and white theme, I mixed different patterns and colours. I added floral plates and napkins, introduced some hues of pink by having a floral arrangement as the centerpiece on the table, and I added a red and white stripe pattern table runner. All these items combined were under $35 at HomeSense. Inexpensive items that added elements of style to my Canada Day party. Another favourite addition is the festive maple leaf kitchen towel I picked up.

Think Outside the box
Elevate the look of your Canada Day party by thinking outside the box. Chances are your apartment has a small patio and your storage space is limited too. My advise is to purchase decor items that you will use throughout the year, but items that are still focused around Canada. I love these Oh Canada cocktail glasses, (a steal at only $3.99 each at HomeSense compared to $5.00 elsewhere), the True North Strong and Free coffee mugs were also just $5.99 and the 4 set Sorry shot glasses I picked up was only $7 compared to $13.00 at other retailers. These items are a great way to pull off your Canada Day theme, because I can use them throughout the year, and not just for Canada Day. They are festive, but not limited to the occasion. A big part of any party and your home is comfort. Chances are some guests will be sitting, some will be standing. To make the limited sitting area as comfortable as possible I added these ultra-comfy Canadiana themed pillows. So cute, eh? HomeSense has such great variety right now and at such affordable prices too. Perfect addition to your Canada Day theme if you want to keep the kids entertained is the Canadian Pacific Puzzle I picked up for only $14.99.

Mess Free Food and Easy To Serve Drinks
When you are throwing a party at a small patio or balcony, I always recommend you keep the food mess free and bite size. I love putting together tray platters with assorted bite size food. I got a beautiful tin tray from HomeSense (on sale for just $24) and I placed some food options on it. To add depth to the tray I also picked up the cutest mini serving basket set (just $7.99), and I placed inside fig and prosciutto panini sandwiches I made. To make the party even more enjoyable I filed up a beverage dispenser with red Sangria and placed it on the table, so that my guests can easily grab a drink at any time. HomeSense has different types of beverage dispensers depending on your style and size of party.
Hope these simple steps will help you throw your very own Stylish Canada Day summer party. I love all the Canada related items I picked up from HomeSense, and can’t wait to see what other cute items you pick up from HomeSense when you are planning your party.
All items in this post except food are from HomeSense. Thank you to HomeSense for sponsoring this post and for helping me throw my very own Canada Day celebration.
