A Unique Desk That Speaks To You

I found my dream desk Homesense for $199 (similar) but it proved to be a bit impractical. Even if you think that the desk is your inspiration gem, you need to take a step back and think if the desk is practical. During my graduate days, the desk was impractical, and caused me more frustration than inspiration. I was dealing with multiple books, endless printouts, my laptop, coffee at hand. The surface area of the desk was simply not enough. However, those days are gone now, and with my current workload the space is sufficient. When buying a desk you need to ensure that it fits your style, but also that is the right size for what it will be used for.

Fun Office Accessories

From funky pens to chic paperclips, the easiest way to turn your desk area to a fabulous hub is with desk accessories. Desk essentials like tape dispensers, staplers and pencil holders can be quite boring and uninspiring. If you want to up your desk game, I highly recommend you find yourself a cute tape dispenser like the dog tape dispenser I have. I went with gold accessories because of how amazing the contrast is with my rustic French country desk. The acrylic gold stapler and acrylic pencil holder, I actually grabbed from Kate Spade. If you are on budget, you could also use a chic souvenir or coffee mug as a pencil holder.

Reuse Mini Candy Boxes

For all the desk knickknacks, like mini flags, pins, batteries, post it notes, I love using used candy or macaron boxes. My favourite are the ones from Laduree or Sugarfina. If you are on a budget and do not want to splurge on storing boxes, this is a great an cute alternative.

One of my favourite things about my desk area is the art gallery wall right above my desk. This is the most inexpensive way to make your desk are chic and fabulous. When it comes to investing in frames, don’t splurge because they are not staple items. I would opt to buy frames from Ikea or Walmart. I got all of my frames for less than $50. If you are even on a tighter budget and you don’t have the money to spend on purchasing art work prints or you also can’t exactly find what you are looking for in stores, I suggest you look through Pinterest find your favourite art, save, and print. Magazine ads clippings are also a great option.
