I got this beautiful print Leota dress last month, and then it daunted on me that it is definitely not summer yet. Since I don’t want to wait till summer to wear this beauty, I decided to mix it up and dress it for winter. Leota has tons of designs that are appropriate for all seasons and I love the fun prints their collections have, whether they are in their winter or summer collection. There is definitely no rule that says you cannot wear summer prints in winter, but it is essential for you to make it winter weather appropriate. Here are different ways to wear your summer dress in winter. Depending on the print and design of your dress you can choose one or two of the following ways to make your dress look as if it was made to be worn in winter.
Layer your Dress
Throw on a jacket, cardigan or a fur vest like I did, on top of your dress to break the busy print. Darker colours like grey, black, brown or even something that is beige will work the best when you are wearing prints in winter.
Wear a Shirt Underneath
If the dress is sleeveless, I love adding a turtleneck or a white button-down shirt underneath. The perfect way to keep warm and also make your dress winter appropriate.
Add a Sweater
Another fun option is wearing a sweater on top of your dress. This instantly turns your look from a one piece to a two piece combo. I would go for an oversized grey or beige knitted sweater. Now you have transformed your dress into a skirt.
Don’t Forget the Tights
Although tights are not necessary, although they are if you want to keep warm, adding tights also helps to transform your summer print to a winter favourite. Because I wore knee high boots, I decided not to. But, if I went with flats instead I would have definitely wore a pair of black or grey tights.
Shoes
Although not necessary, wearing boots usually adds that winter vibe to your look, but you don’t have to. It all depends how busy the pattern of your dress is. Mine screams Palm Springs, so I thought it was necessary to go with a winter style shoe.
