What to Spend
Suddenly all of your friends are getting married and you are left with the dilemma of what to spend on all the bridal showers that are about to unravel. Putting a price tag on things is difficult, because you may find
something that is an amazing gift for $15 or $80. Use your judgement depending on whose wedding shower you are attending. Typically you should not spend more than $50 on a gift for
a bridal shower. Anything between $20-$40 is a reasonable amount. When
you have many weddings to attend, amounts tend to pile up very quickly. If it
is a close friend, I say use your heart as your judgement. Cheesy, but true. Just keep in
mind, you have to give a wedding gift as well. When it comes to immediate family members, I say the sky is the limit, but how much to spend on a bridal shower gift for family it is always up to the individual.
Wedding
Registry
If the bride is registered at a store for her wedding shower then ensure you
purchase the gift right away. Gifts on the lower end of the spectrum
tend to go fast. If you are on a strict budget, then purchase the gift
as soon as you receive your invitation. Another great thing about a gift
registry is that stores tend to have sales, and chances are your gift
may end up costing less than you expected.

Sentimental Gifts
My
personal opinion is that bridal shower gifts should be sentimental,
especially if it is a close friend. It seems impersonal to buy a kitchenware set for someone you have known for 10 years. Yes,
maybe they need that pot, but if I was the bride I would much rather
receive an item that means something. When my best friend had her bridal
shower, there was no doubt in my mind I wanted to do something special
for her. She loves diet coke, so I purchased for her 2 24packs of diet
coke (which I knew she would thoroughly enjoy) and I also made for her a
scrapbook with pictures we had taken over the years since we had met. Scrapbooks are a great gift if you want the bride to feel special. A time consuming gift, but nothing will make the bride happier.
Overall, rule of thumb for any time you give a gift for a bridal shower is that you should give what you can afford. Do not go in debt for the bride, but don’t be frugal if you can afford an expensive gift.
